Daniel Spigelman

Purple Cloud Clinic: Chinese Medicine, Chinese Herbs, Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Rehabilitation, Breathwork, Meditation

Daniel's passion for martial arts began early in life, studying a variety of different styles in his teenage years. A recurrent chronic shoulder injury stopped him from competing at a higher level in his twenties, but where one door closes another opens; having tried conventional methods of healing without success, Daniel turned his attention to traditional Chinese healing arts such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, Tai Ji and Qi Gong. His shoulder showed steady improvement as well as noticing changes in other aspects of his life.

This sparked in him the desire to study these arts further, enrolling in Chinese Medical school and eventually securing a scholarship in 2009 to study full-time in Mainland China at the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. During this time he had the opportunity to study with a variety of well-known doctors, Daoists and martial arts practitioners in Beijing and throughout China, eventually becoming an inner door disciple of the Zhang Ce lineage of Wu Xing Tong Bei style of martial arts from Sun Xiang Yong in Beijing and receiving a 24th Dragon Gate lineage name from Li Shifu at the Five Immortals Temple in Wudang, as well as studying medicine closely with Wang Ju Yi and Andrew Nugent-Head.

Since returning to Australia, Daniel has placed his efforts into disseminating what he learned in China, in particular the various healing arts which had been so beneficial to his own health and well-being. He hopes to act as a bridge between East and West, having worked at the National Institute of Complementary Medicine, a joint facility of Westmead Hospital and the Kinghorn Cancer Centre, a joint facility of St Vincent's Hospital and the Garvan Institute, where he worked in a multidisciplinary team in the treatment of oncology patients. Daniel hopes to pursue this work in tandem with the medical community and continue to develop the knowledge and practice of Chinese Medicine in the wider community. Daniel is currently in the process of completing a Master’s degree at the University of Sydney researching ancient Chinese rehabilitative exercises.

Daniel is bringing his passion and knowledge to the Beach Road Body and Mind community through 1:1 consultations, as well as with focussed rehabilitative classes for anyone experiencing pain, and Breathwork and Meditation classes utilising techniques from the Chinese Daoist tradition aimed at optimising organ function and creating a peaceful mindstate.
